Written as a series of fictional letters from a senior demon (Screwtape) to his nephew Wormwood, Lewis exposes the everyday schemes of the enemy and, in doing so, helps us see more clearly how Christ equips us to stand firm in faith.
Fall Schedule (every other Wednesday):
-
Oct 8 – Letters 1–5
-
Oct 22 – Letters 6–10
-
Nov 5 – Letters 11–15
-
Nov 19 – Letters 16–20
-
Dec 3 – Letters 21–25

Introduction to Biblical Covenants: A Reformed Presbyterian Perspective
Welcome to our 8-week study on Biblical covenants, a journey through the theological and historical framework of God’s redemptive relationship with humanity. This course will define the nature of a covenant—an oath-based relationship with obligations, blessings, and curses—and explore its centrality in Scripture as the structure for God’s sovereign dealings in history. Over the eight weeks, we will examine key covenants, including the Covenant of Redemption, the Covenant of Works, the Covenant of Grace, the Common Grace Covenant, and the historical covenants with Abraham, Moses, David, and the New Covenant fulfilled in Christ. These covenants reveal God’s unchanging faithfulness, sovereign grace, and the unfolding of His redemptive plan.
Our primary source reading will be Sacred Bond: Covenant Theology Explored by Michael G. Brown and Zach M. Keele, supplemented by relevant passages from Scripture and the Westminster Confession of Faith. Each week, beginning July 8, 2025, and concluding October 28, 2025, will include lectures, discussions, and engagement with assigned readings to deepen our understanding of covenant theology and its implications for faith and life. No prior theological training is required—just a heart eager to explore God’s Word and grow in awe of our covenant-keeping God. Join us as we trace the scarlet thread of God’s promises through history, culminating in the glory of the New Covenant in Christ.
Week 1 – What is a Covenant? Overview of Historical Covenants July 8th, 2025 Overview: What is a Covenant? Why is Covenant Theology important for us to understand as 21st Century Christians? Our first session will seek to define covenant and show that it is not only a framework for understanding Biblical history, but the means that God uses to relates to us as his redeemed people.
Suggested Reading:
Week 2 – The Covenant of Redemption July 22nd, 2025 Overview: Before the world began, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit made a plan to save us. The Father chose a people to redeem, the Son agreed to be our Savior, and the Spirit promised to apply this salvation to our lives. This session will help us marvel at God’s love that planned our salvation before time!
Suggested Reading:
Week 3 – The Covenant of Works August 12, 2025 Overview: God made a promise to Adam: obey perfectly and live forever, or disobey and face separation from God. Adam’s failure shows us our need for a Savior. We’ll explore how this covenant sets the stage for God’s bigger plan of grace.
Suggested Reading:
- Genesis 1:26-3:7, Hosea 6:7, Romans 5:12-21
- Sacred Bond, “Failure in Paradise: The Covenant of Works”
- WCF Chapters 7.1, 17.1
Week 4 – The Covenant of Grace and The Covenant of Common Grace August 26th, 2025 Overview: After Adam’s failure, God didn’t give up! He promised salvation through the Covenant of Grace, starting with Adam and Eve and continuing through history to Jesus. We’ll also look at the Common Grace Covenant, where God shows kindness to all people. These covenants show God’s heart to redeem and care for His creation.
Suggested Reading:
- Genesis 3:15-24, Genesis 9:1-17, Genesis 17:1-7, Exodus 6:7, Leviticus 17:1-14, Jeremiah 31:31-34
- Sacred Bond, “I Will Be Your God: The Covenant of Grace” and “Promise in the Cloud: The Common Grace Covenant”
- WCF Chapter 7
Week 5 – Abrahamic Covenant September 9th, 2025 Overview: God chose Abraham and promised to bless him, give him a family, and make him a blessing to the world. This covenant points to Jesus, who fulfills God’s promises to all nations. We’ll see how God’s faithfulness to Abraham encourages us to trust Him.
Suggested Reading:
- Genesis 12:1-9, 15:1-21, 17:1-14
- Sacred Bond, “I Will Give to You: The Abrahamic Covenant”
Week 6 – Mosaic Covenant September 23, 2025 Overview: God gave Israel the law through Moses to guide them and show their need for a Savior. This covenant points to Jesus, who perfectly kept the law for us. We’ll explore how God’s law and grace work together to lead us to Christ.
Suggested Reading:
- Exodus 19:1-20:21, Galatians 3:15-23
- Sacred Bond, “Don’t Spare the Rod: The Mosaic Covenant”
- WCF Chapters 7.5, 17.2-4

Suggested Reading:
- 2 Samuel 7, Jeremiah 33:20-21, Acts 13:32-37
- Sacred Bond, “The King Who Did: The Davidic Covenant”
Week 8 – The New Covenant October 28th, 2025 Overview: The New Covenant is God’s ultimate promise, fulfilled in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
